Kennel Iosono – about us<\/span><\/h2>\n

We are daughter Inka Forss and mother Erja Luomanm\u00e4ki from Helsinki, Finland. Our journey with Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas began in 1997, and two years later, in 1999, Italian Greyhounds also became a part of our lives. We received our kennel name \u201cIosono\u201d in 2000. The name is Italian and translates to \u201cI am\u201d in English (io = I, sono = am). Our first Cirneco dell\u2019Etna litter was born in 2000, followed by our first Italian Greyhound litter in 2007. To date, we have bred 24 Cirneco dell\u2019Etna litters and 12 Italian Greyhound litters.<\/p>\n

Behind the Iosono kennel name are a mother and daughter team from Helsinki: Erja Luomanm\u00e4ki and Inka Forss. Our litters are raised in a home environment, and our dogs are first and foremost beloved family companions. Most of the dogs we own live with their own families, and we ourselves have usually had only one to three dogs living at home at any given time. The Italian Greyhounds live with Erja, while the Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas live with Inka.<\/p>\n

Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas entered our lives in 1997, followed two years later by Italian Greyhounds in 1999. Our very first Iosono Cirneco dell\u2019Etna litter was born in September 2000, just two days after our kennel name \u201cIosono\u201d was officially approved. We began breeding Italian Greyhounds in 2007. Today, we are the longest continuously active breeders of Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas in Finland. To date, we have bred 24 Cirneco dell\u2019Etna litters and 12 Italian Greyhound litters.<\/p>\n

The foundation dogs of our Cirneco dell\u2019Etna breeding program were born in the breed\u2019s homeland, Italy, and we continue to aim to bring new bloodlines from Italy to Finland.<\/p>\n

Our Italian Greyhound lines originate from American bloodlines imported to Finland, but over the years they have also incorporated Central European, Australian, South African, and Finnish breeding lines.<\/p>\n

With both breeds, we have travelled abroad several times to breed our females, and we have also imported dogs from other countries in the hope of introducing new bloodlines.<\/p>\n

All females used in our breeding program are health tested according to the recommendations of the breed clubs, including at minimum eye and patella examinations, and nowadays we also aim to examine hips and elbows. In addition, all breeding dogs undergo genetic testing: MyDogDNA testing in both breeds, UC Davis testing for Italian Greyhounds, and CONS testing for Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas through Eurovetgene.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

For several decades now, our Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas have ranked among the most successful representatives of the breed in Finland, both in the show ring and in lure coursing competitions. Our own dogs as well as dogs bred by us have achieved numerous titles such as Top Winning Cirneco dell\u2019Etna and Top Winning Opposite Sex Cirneco dell\u2019Etna in conformation shows, lure coursing, and performance events.<\/p>\n

Our breeding work with Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas has been recognised in the statistics and awards of both the breed club Finnish Cirneco & Italian Greyhound Club and the Finnish Kennel Club. In addition, the Finnish Sighthound Association awarded us a breeder\u2019s recognition for distinguished Cirneco dell\u2019Etna breeding work, making us the first Cirneco dell\u2019Etna breeders in Finland to receive this honour.<\/p>\n

Both our Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas and Italian Greyhounds have earned World Winner and European Winner titles, working champion titles, and numerous specialty show victories. However, the achievements that are especially meaningful to us are the accomplishments of our breeder groups at all-breed level. We have placed among Finland\u2019s top breeders in the Finnish Kennel Club\u2019s Breeder of the Year competition, with our highest achievement being 6th place among breeders of all breeds.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

During Erja\u2019s younger years, her family owned a Boxer named Tani (Tanith von der Nutzen), who had two Boxer litters while living with Erja\u2019s parents.<\/p>\n

However, the next dog did not arrive until a few decades later in the 1990s, when Inka, as a teenage girl, finally convinced the family to get another dog. After searching for a suitable breed, we found the Cirneco dell\u2019Etna. At that time, in 1997, there were only three Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas in Finland and the Nordic countries combined.<\/p>\n

Jazi (Bambi, 1997\u20132012), our very first Cirneco dell\u2019Etna, arrived to us from Italy. Jazi\u2019s breeder was Domenico Tricomi, who today breeds Cirneco dell\u2019Etnas together with Jane Moore under the kennel name Hadranensis, although back in the 1990s they did not yet share a kennel name. With Jazi, Inka became actively involved in dog shows, lure coursing, track racing, and agility, and also travelled abroad to shows, including Italy itself.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Becoming breeders was never something we had carefully planned, in many ways it happened almost by accident. The full story is probably too long to tell here, but in short: in the summer of 2000, Inka travelled to Italy with Jazi and returned to Finland with Felix del Gelso Bianco, the sire of our first litter. Felix stayed with us on a breeding loan for a few months, and as a result our very first litter was born in the autumn of 2000.<\/p>\n

At that time, the entire dog hobby was mainly Inka\u2019s project, and Erja was not yet particularly enthusiastic about dog shows or breeding. However, because Inka was still underage, the kennel name Iosono was applied for in Erja\u2019s name, and the FCI officially granted the kennel name Iosono on 18 September 2000, just two days before the birth of our very first litter.<\/p>\n

The original plan had simply been to have one or two litters with Jazi and leave it at that. Things turned out differently, however, as Erja gradually became more interested in the hobby as well, and our breeding work continued through Jazi\u2019s two daughters.<\/p>\n

By this point, our first Italian Greyhound, Seela (Necku C\u2019est Cela, 1999\u20132003), had also joined our family, and from our second Cirneco litter we kept a male named Miki (Iosono Michelangelo, 2001\u20132010).<\/p>\n

Our following Cirneco dell\u2019Etna litters were born in 2004 and 2005. Eventually, Italian Greyhound breeding also began to attract us. Our first Italian Greyhound litter was born in the summer of 2007 out of Ida (Necku Iosono Vicenza), who was the daughter of our Seela. All 12 Italian Greyhound litters bred by us descend from Seela and Ida. We have also imported a few Italian Greyhounds from abroad, although none of those dogs were ultimately used in our breeding program.<\/p>\n

Over the years, we have bred a total of 24 Cirneco dell\u2019Etna litters. We have imported many dogs from abroad, and especially from Domenico and Jane in Italy. In addition to our first Cirneco, Bambi, the following Hadranensis dogs have come to Finland to live with us: Hadranensis Radames, Hadranensis Simba, Hadranensis Poirot, Hadranensis Giglio, Hadranensis Lilla, Hadranensis Ginestra, Hadranensis Cornelius, Hadranensis Erice, and Hadranensis Zimana. Domenico and Jane have been our mentors throughout all these years of breeding, and we are truly grateful to them for their guidance and support. Domenico is widely regarded as one of the greatest experts and authorities on the breed in the world. We have also imported several other dogs from breeders in Italy, Belgium, Sweden, and Russia.<\/p>\n

The most important goal of our breeding work in both breeds has always been to breed healthy dogs with breedtypical temperaments and not forgetting the breedtype.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
